WTA promotes coaching, equal treatment for players

The WTA calls for fair treatment of players and the training of coaches through tennis following the American women's final.

CEO Steve Simon said all players should be treated the same way and that the tour "does not believe it was done last night" when Umpire Carlos Ramos sentenced Serena Williams to defeat Naomi Osaka.

Simon says the WTA supports coaching, but adds that additional exams are needed.

Novak Djokovic won his second consecutive major title and 14th overall by beating Juan Martin del Potro 6-3, 7-6 (4) and 6-3 in the United States.

With his third championship at Flushing Meadows, Djokovic tied Pete Sampras for third place in the Grand Slam title standings. Roger Federer has 20 titles and Rafael Nadal 17.

Djokovic went on to a remarkable summer after missing the end of last season with a right elbow injury. He won Wimbledon and a Masters event in Cincinnati.

Del Potro, the American Open champion of 2009, remains with this single major title.
