WWE Evolution 2018: Reactions and Criticisms

[ad_1]

Here are my last thoughts on NXT, Raw and the 2018 WWE Evolution of SmackDown Live!

Trish Stratus and Lita vs. Mickie James and Alicia Fox (with Alexa Bliss)

reactions: That's exactly what I was expecting – a presentation of the greatest hits of two WWE legends. James and Fox were set up here to play the role of crash dummies for their opponents. To be honest, the match was pretty basic and costed. Trish and Lita started having fun, Bliss's duo was finally offended, and then the Babyface Hall of Fame was back. Nothing shocking there. That was what it was. This is the type of match that makes the show pure and simple: non-offensive material, but nothing extraordinary.

Alundra Blayze vs. Asuka vs. Billie Kay vs. Carmella vs. Dana Brooke vs. Ember Moon vs. Ivory vs. Kelly Kelly vs. Lana vs. Mandy Rose vs. Maria Kanellis vs. Michelle McCool vs. Molly Holly vs. Naomi vs. Nia Jax vs. Peyton Royce vs. Sonya Deville vs. Tamina vs. Torrie Wilson against Zelina Vega (historic royal battle for a future opportunity of the women's championship)

reactions: It was very amusing. This royal battle featured the past, present and future stars of the WWE women's division and let them flee. The Iiconics promotion at the very beginning provided a hint of quick humor, the random dance break starring Carmella and Ivory gave the crowd something to quibble, and the rest of the pack beat all the weather. And what about this multi-female suplex spot?

Asuka and Naomi worked well together, while Tamina and Nia Jax looked solid as a Samoan unit. Ember Moon also looked good and was close to winning late in the game. Jax was the big favorite here and she made sure to please everyone who had bet on her. It's a little more than I thought (it's probably because Ivory, Alundra Blayze and Molly Holly were present, I love them!).

Toni Storm vs. Io Shirai (Mae Young Classic Final 2018)

reactions: Well, I was clearly wrong! I thought Io Shirai was a foolproof choice for the win, but Toni Storm finally shocked me by winning. And this came to the conclusion of a good match between two extremely talented performers. The two women hit hard and delivered inspirational moments, such as Storm's German Suplex on the apron and Io's impressive high-flying offensive. I'm not shocked by the fact that this fight has kept its promise to provide quality action for women in the ring. I'm just shocked by the winner! Congratulations to both women for organizing a hot contest and showing everything on the WWE main stage.

Sasha Banks, Bayley and Natalya against Riott's team (Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan) (Team match of 6 women)

reactions: I will not stay here and say that I was excited to see this game. Watch all the combinations of the Riott team against the three ladies of the Babyface Raw team really aged very quickly. It was another case of this type, which led me to be a little behind even before it happened. But in the end, it was good. Now, notice, there were remarkably messy spots strewn all over. I should lose an extra point because of these mistakes.

But the match still managed to bring out the best of the six ladies. There was even a little story set up here to continue the dynamic "friend or foe?" Between Bayley and Sasha Banks. The Riott team looked pretty strong here, as she had plenty of time to work her stabem magic in the ring. Banks, Bayley and Natalya also made sure to face their stable opponents with an equally impressive team attack. This one was a slow and entertaining burner, but he was always spoiled by some key moments, which made him a little crazy in the actual run.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Kairi Sane (c) against Shayna Baszler (NXT Women's Championship)

reactions: This one was becoming your usual NXT TakeOver regular match … but then it adopted the lame interference factor. Before all this outdoor madness came into play, Kairi Sane and Shayna Baszler represented their brand of development in the best possible way – through their pure will, determination and excellent work in the ring. Baszler brutalized Sane's arm for a good while, while Sane fought back with quick strikes and his own submission job. There was even an extra-brutal moment in the match that saw Baszler grabbing Sane's arm as she hung from the ring apron!

After Sane had flown outside the top rope on Baszler, unwanted shenanigans began. Comrade MMA Baszler and now NXT trainees stepped in to fire Sane out of his game, which was rather lame to be honest. Because of all this outside interference, Sane was choked. And that's how Sane's reign came to an end – via stable (useless) and illegal tactics. What could have been great here ended up being good. For an NXT title match, it's kind of a disappointment.

Becky Lynch (c) against Charlotte Flair (last women's showdown for WWE SmackDown's Championship)

reactions: THE TRUE MAIN EVENT OF EVOLUTION! For such a fierce quarrel featuring two of WWE's top female athletes, this match was a perfect digest of the greatness of Becky Lynch and Charlotte. We arrived here at an intense match from LWS who introduced everything (except the kitchen sink, of course). Lynch's arrogant and egocentric behavior made her the favorite. But Charlotte eventually garnered public support as she became even more hardcore with her former best friend. The element of intense hatred shared between the two women pushed her to extreme levels, which was necessary. Supplements to Charlotte for repairing her moon disk through a table seat and getting the crowd back into the match with a sick Senton bomb.

There was a ton of other good times to remember here: Charlotte's ladder helped Figure Eight Leglock, Lynch hitting Charlotte on a table, Charlotte and Lynch fighting in the crowd, Charlotte playing Lynch after getting angry and so on. The best moment of all however – Lynch has recovered in time for Powerbomb Charlotte viciously across a table. This match had the extra time it deserved and kept its promise to give everyone an incredible match. Lynch and Charlotte have officially earned GOAT status in women's wrestling. Please look at this one if you missed it the first time!

Ronda Rousey (c) against Nikki Bella (with Brie Bella) (WWE Raw Women's Championship)

reactions: Well … color me surprised. It ended up being very good. No better than the match that took place before you do not mind, but still good. Ronda almost committed suicide to make her work (push her into the steel pillar on the outside). All of these beautiful Rousey sales have done enough to give the impression that Nikki really had a chance to beat her. The use of additional shenanigans added a little punch to this one, plus the closing moments made the crowd really alive. I hate Bella passionately, but I have to acknowledge the merit. They were not as bad and terrible as they usually are. Ronda kicked all asses tonight at a surprisingly good main event!

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Match of the night

Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair!

Final verdict

Thanks to the exceptional performance of WWE PPV's first participation tonight, Evolution will definitely have a sequel! Expectations were quite low due to less than stellar accumulation of this event, but the show itself was presented to the shovel. We had a fun royal battle, the appearance of several female legends, successful bouts of less-known female talent, a strong six-woman tag, an incredible LWS title match and a surprisingly good main event. WWE Evolution is currently among the best exclusives (and wrestling events, period) of the 2018 WWE Network.

Final score: 4 stars out of 5
