Strowman – a 6ft 8in, 385lb behemoth – is one of the most popular stars on Raw and has been consistently tipped for greatness in WWE.
And yet some WWE fans have been flummoxed as to why Vince McMahon and his wrestling chiefs appear to have been reluctant to make him a top star.
The Monster Among Men lost out again last week when he lost in decisive fashion to Brock Lesnar in a match for the vacant WWE Universal Championship at the controversial show Crown Jewel.
Insiders have now claimed Strowman has major “heat” backstage – a term which refers to wrestlers being in trouble in the locker room or with management.
Despite consistently being one of Raw’s top stars, Strowman has never won the top title in WWE.
“Sometimes, as one person put it, he’s his own worst enemy and his worst advocate”
Mike Johnson
Wrestling reporter Mike Johnson from PWInsider alleged four different sources confirmed him to Strowman is in hot water backstage.
He claimed the 35-year-old has a reputation for being late and leaving shows early.
Johnson went on that WWE management still like Strowman, but keep taking a step back when he makes a “misstep” backstage.
WWE is now searching for a new top star after Roman Reigns revealed has leukaemia had returned and he was taking a break to fight it.
Johnson said: “There are times where Strowman is negligent when it comes to showing up on time.
“He has a reputation at times for leaving a little early and sometimes he makes mistakes in terms of etiquette in the backstage in the locker room.
“Sometimes, as one person put it, he’s his own worst enemy and his worst advocate.
“They would be high on him and just when he gets to the point where you would think the next step is putting him into the centerpiece position for the company [then] something happens and he makes some sort of misstep backstage and people within management kind of cool on him and they take a step back.”
Johnson theorised WWE don’t trust him to be at the top of the company following the departure of Reigns.
Strowman is also reportedly battling major issues with his knees – but is still scheduled to appear at shows building up to Survivor Series in November.
Wrestling insider Dave Meltzer claimed the giant’s “knees are shot” and he is struggling to walk.
He pointed to a segement on this week’s Raw when Strowman appeared uncomfortable as he ran after general manager Baron Corbin.
Strowman was a professional strongman before turning to wrestling – winning a slew of competitions.
He signed for WWE back in 2013 and was quickly moved onto the top show – skipping developmental brand NXT.
The Greatest Royal Rumble winner initially portrayed a villainous enforcer for the Wyatt Family before transitioning into the role of a fan favourite.
WWE was struck by tragedy yesterday when Shawn Michaels’ trainer Jose Lothario died aged 83.
