As the 2018 BET Awards came to an end, host Jamie Foxx took a moment to discuss the recent controversial murder of rapper XXXTentacion.
During the last part of the in memoriam section, where the late artist's image was last aired, Foxx took the opportunity to comment on the crime and violence perpetrated within and against the young African-American community, including some of the most legendary hip-hop artists.
"I think we're too used to young people being killed – it's like we're not even traveling anymore," he said, "I was actually in Las Vegas, Tupac "I was in Los Angeles, Biggie was gone," he continued, "I'm not saying that it's me, that we can stop everything, but we have to understand something."
Foxx then used the high-profile topic as a sequel in the Snoop Dogg finale. "Our next performer, he went through a lot of grief, changed his life," he added, "Today, he is celebrating 25 years of his first album, Doggystyle"

Several other artists commented on the loss of the rapper killed on the red carpet leading to the event, many remembering his talent and success while deploring the situation.
"[It’s] really unhappy, "said actor Christian Keyes, whose son was a fan of his music." Clearly, he had millions of fans who loved him. I do not know all the facts around, but I hate that it happened and I know he did not deserve it, "he told PEOPLE.
The gospel artist B. Slade also talked about the rapper's widespread influence. "I know that at least five million children have been affected in a positive way," he said.
Artist Desiigner, winner of a Billboard Award, told People: "I've never really had the opportunity to meet him, but I was a fan. I studied his craft. I watched it on stage and it was dope. "

XXXTentacion was shot dead at the age of 20 in a hint of theft on 18 June. The Florida native was at the peak of public recognition, both for his high profile albums and for the allegations of domestic violence lodged against him.
A few months earlier, the house arrest ordered by the rapper had been lifted while he was awaiting trial for multiple counts, after being accused of beating his small pregnant friend.

The rapper also sparked controversy with his music, notably in his September 2017 clip for his hit song "Look at Me," which portrayed him lynching a young white boy. He saw his greatest success in death, with his song "Sad!" Jumping from No. 52 to No. 1 on the Display panel graphic.
The funeral and memorial of XXXTentacion fans will take place Wednesday at the Florida Panthers Stadium in Sunrise, Florida.
