Yaakov Weinroth, one of Israel's most prominent attorneys and longtime advocate of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his great Sara, has passed away. He was 71 years old.

Weinroth died Tuesday after a long battle with cancer. He has represented a number of senior political figures in some of the country's best-known court cases.

Weinroth, a practicing Jew, studied in religious seminaries and was ordained a rabbi before continuing his law studies and obtaining a doctorate in law from the Tel Aviv University.

In recent years, he has been identified as representing Netanyahu in his various court cases. Israeli police have recommended that Netanyahu be indicted on charges of corruption, fraud and breach of trust in two separate cases. His wife is also on trial for alleged fraud.

Weinroth leaves behind a woman and six children.
