Yale's law professor denies claiming that Kavanaugh only had employees who "looked like models"

The Guardian reported on Thursday that Yale Law Professor Amy Chua had warned students that "Kavanaugh's employees" were all like models "and that they would have given fashion advice to students planning an interview with her. .

The article also cited former students who claimed that Chua's husband, Yale Law Professor Jed Rubenfeld, also told the students that Kavanaugh liked a certain "look".

Chua denied the allegations, noting that Kavanaugh 's only "litmus test" at the hiring was "excellence".

"It only hires the most qualified employees and they have been diverse and exceptionally talented and able," Chua said in a statement. "There are good reasons why many of them have gone to Supreme Court courses; he only hires those who are extraordinarily qualified.

Of the 48 employees who had worked for Kavanaugh for more than 12 years at the US District Court of Appeals in the United States, 25 were women.

In July, Chua wrote an editorial for The Wall Street Journal, endorsing Kavanaugh's appointment to the High Court and congratulating him for being a "mentor for women".

"As I wrote in the Wall Street Journal, he has also been an outstanding mentor for his employees and a champion of their careers," Chua said in a statement. "Among my proudest moments as a parent, it was the day I learned that our daughter was going to join these ranks.

Chua's daughter is a clerk in Kavanaugh's chambers.

A former Kavanaugh clerk from 2007 to 2008, Porter Wilkinson, also blew up the claims, calling them "offensive."

"Judge Kavanuagh hires lawyers solely on the basis of their intellect and qualifications," Wilkinson said in a statement to Fox News. "We have all worked hard and proved our ability to meet its rigorous standards.If otherwise, the 48 of us are different by gender, race and ethnicity, sexual orientation, geography, political persuasion, religion, education, socioeconomic background and much more.

She added, "It is offensive and degrading for anyone to suggest that Judge Kavanaugh hired paralegals for anything other than merit."

Kavanaugh is currently under scrutiny after allegations were made last week that he sexually assaulted a woman in high school in the 1980s.

Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who laid the charges, claimed that Kavanaugh pinned her at a party 36 years ago that she had tried to remove her swimsuit and hand her her back when she had tried to scream. Ford's lawyer, Debra Katz, said her client considered it was "an attempt at rape."

Kavanaugh vehemently denied the allegations and offered to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee, again under oath.

Thanks to his lawyers this week, Ford has demanded that the FBI investigate these allegations before his appearance. On Thursday afternoon, Ford's lawyers said it would be ready to testify if the committee was able to guarantee its safety.
