The Yankees, while the Mariners were in full sale, had the idea of meeting with Robinson Cano.
After reaching a mega deal earlier in the off season, Seattle contacted Cano earlier in the off season with the Mets and Yankees about the Yankees deal involving Jacoby Ellsbury, according to a report.
Athletic, citing sources, reported that the Mariners had contacted the Yankees about an agreement that would exchange two of the biggest baseball contracts. The talks broke down after the Yankees asked the Mariners to include "substantial cash" alongside Ellsbury.
The potential exchange would have allowed two of the baseball graduation stars to reach a new start and end their career.
For Cano, we owe $ 120 million to the 36-year-old over the next five seasons. He spent much of 2018 serving an 80-game suspension for testing positive for a banned substance. He would not be part of the Yankees at second base and the only real possibility would be to make him a first baseman and a designated hitter.
