ST. PETERSBURG, Florida – It's unclear when – or if – CC Sabathia will launch another Yankees throw, but the last one he launched on Thursday was memorable.
The left-hander was sent off after defeating Tampa Bay receiver Jesus Sucre with the first throwing of the bottom of the sixth with the Yankees leading 11-0, following a warning from home rider Vic Vicapella at the top of the round, when Right-handed Andrew Kittredge threw a 93-mph fastball behind Austin Romine's lead with his first throw of the inning.
After Romine glared at Kittredge, Sabathia took a few steps in front of the Yankee shelter and seemed to say something to Kittredge. Carapazza issued warnings to both banks.
The Yankees then scored four points in the frame to open the game and Sabathia immediately hit Sucre with a 92 mph cutter in the left leg.
Sabathia and Aaron Boone were immediately thrown out, but before Sabathia left the mound, he pointed to the Rays' shelter and shouted, "It's for you, bitch."
Nobody left the bench when Sucre was first and Sabathia was replaced by Luis Cessa.
The decision was particularly costly for Sabathia, who had launched five shutout runs and had two runs of less than 155 innings for the season, which would have triggered a $ 500,000 bonus in her contract.
