SEATTLE (AP) – The Oakland Athletics clinched their first playoff spot in four years, then beat the Seattle Mariners 7-3 on Monday night, behind Khris Davis' 46th home race.
Jonathan Lucroy, Jed Lowrie and Matt Chapman also conceded victory to the A, which is no worse than a wild card AL.
Oakland was eliminated when Tampa Bay was eliminated with a 4-1 loss to the New York Yankees. The A went on to win after Chapman broke a 3-3 draw with a two-point run in Shawn Armstrong's seventh (0-1).
After finishing three places in a row at the AL West, the A's (95-62) are 4½ behind Houston, leader of the AL West. They must follow the Yankees by a game and a half to get the advantage on the field if they meet during a wild card match.
Robinson Cano and Dee Gordon competed for the Mariners.
The Athletics will make their fourth playoff appearance in the last seven seasons, led by Bob Melvin, and their 27th overall. The A lost to Kansas City 9-8 in 12 innings in the 2014 game, the last time Oakland reached the playoffs.

The defending champions of the Netherlands have won six games out of seven.
Freese finished 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Kershaw (9-5) threw six innings, allowing three runs and six hits. He scratched six and walked one.
Ketel Marte regressed and made three races, all off Kershaw and A.J. Pollock went against Kenley Jansen in the ninth. The Diamondbacks, already eliminated from the playoffs, have lost four games in a row and eight of nine.

ROCKIES 10, PHILLIES 1
DENVER (AP) – Jon Gray launched seven crisp runs and started a grassroots run in a third five-point race to lead Colorado to Philadelphia.
The Rockies have won their fourth consecutive game since their stint at Dodger Stadium. They closed in a half-match of St. Louis for the second wild card after the Cardinals defeated Milwaukee.

The All-Star Trevor Story shortstop returned to the lineup after missing a week of inflammation in his right elbow and had an immediate impact. He had two hard-hit doubles to center.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Bryan Mitchell has eliminated seven innings in 8 2/3, and Jose Pirela made one of his three wins to lead San Diego.
The Giants lost their fifth consecutive game after the team announced the dismissal of GM Bobby Evans. The move comes amid a free fall of the Giants team.
Mitchell (2-4) made only three goals in what was by far his best start to the season.
Pirela beat Giants starter Derek Holland (7-9) to lead the fourth. His fourth circuit gave the Padres a 3-0 lead.
Franmil Reyes had two hits and two runs, and Wil Myers had two hits and two runs.
ANGELS 5, RANGERS 4, 11 INNINGS
ANAHEIM, Calif. (CA) – Jose Briceno signed a circuit leading the pack in the 11th inning and Los Angeles ended their five-game skid.
After Taylor Cole (3-2) pulled out the Rangers in 11th, the rookie Angels rookie left with his fifth career circuit to focus on Matt Moore (3-8).
Shohei Ohtani scored his 21st circuit in the first run and Michael Hermosillo added his first career circuit as the Angels opened their last season at home for their fourth consecutive season.
After the double of Ronald Guzman with two outs in the ninth, Delino DeShields, the pinch runner, scored on a lap tied with Elvis Andrus' left alone for the Rangers. Guzman and Jurickson Profar competed with the Rangers, who began their season-ending journey with their sixth loss in eight games.
