It would seem that Los Angeles travelers will not have to bury themselves in swollen socks or tidy up in their ibuprofen bottles on their next flight because LAX totally fears of bringing the marijuana at the airport, reports ABC 13.
This week, the Los Angeles International Airport released a new marijuana policy on its website, announcing that LAX and the LAPD would now let people take their flight carrying cannabis, provided that it is below the legal limit.
The policy states:
While federal law prohibits the possession of marijuana (including federal airspace), California's Proposition 64, which came into effect on January 1, 2018, allows people aged 21 or older to own up to 10 years of age. 28.5 grams of marijuana and 8 grams of concentrated marijuana. for personal consumption. In accordance with Proposition 64, the Los Angeles Airport Police Service will allow passengers to cross LAX with up to 28.5 grams of marijuana and 8 grams of marijuana concentrate. However, passengers should be aware that marijuana laws vary from state to state and are encouraged to check the laws of the states in which they plan to travel.
This means that, as far as cops are concerned, it's perfectly fine to wear up to an ounce of weed in LAX – but do not expect to just go through TSA with that. Federal TSA agents can still harass people who try to bring a Trainwreck bag or anything for security reasons, because possession of marijuana is still a federal crime. If you are trapped in security, TSA officers can take you apart and call the police to determine if you are transporting the legal amount in the state.
"The TSA's top priority is terrorism and the security threats to the plane and its passengers," TSA spokeswoman Lorie Dankers told ABC 13. "Whether the passenger is allowed or not to travel with marijuana is within the discretion of law enforcement."
Of course, if you make less than 28.5 grams, the LAPD will probably let you down, but safety is a nightmare because it does not have to wait for a policeman to come and weigh your stock. Plus, as the policy points out, the weed in your bag may very well be illegal when you land, depending on your destination. It seems that LAX is leaving airports to monitor potential passengers on their planes carrying California grass.
LAX is the first major airport to officially take up marijuana on its premises. The San Diego International Airport does not have a weed policy, according to ABC 13, and Denver Airport is still banned even though is completely legal in Colorado.
