Your new n ° 1: Justin Rose becomes the 22nd golfer to be ranked best in the world

Justin Rose did not win the 2018 BMW Championship – in fact, he lost so sadly in a series of sudden deaths – but he managed something bigger on Monday at Aronimink. Rose has risen to the top of the world's official golf ranking and has become the 22nd golfer in history to do so. Rose took first place ahead of Dustin Johnson.

"It's an incredible achievement, something I'm extremely proud of," said Rose to Rogar Maltbie of Golf Channel. "… I'm delighted to be the world's number 1. It's a childhood dream."

On a course where he has already won the AT & T National Championship, Rose had a 3-under 67 record on Monday to play in the playoffs with Keegan Bradley. Unfortunately, he bogged down in the 18th hole of regulation to end up in the playoffs, then again in the first hole in the playoffs. He said it was not like that he wanted to get to number 1, but he was delighted no matter what. Rose was so close to getting there with a win.

The top 10 was Rose's 20th world since the start of the FedEx playoffs (so the last 13 months), and he also won four victories. You can almost always argue between three or four guys, but Rose certainly has a strong argument as the best golfer on the planet right now. The race at the top is incredibly tight and could certainly be affected by what happens at the Tour Championship in two weeks.
