You were not alone – YouTube was down about 18 hours. around 7:20 pm on Tuesday.
"Thanks for your reports on YouTube, YouTube TV and problems accessing YouTube music," said a YouTube statement. "We are working on resolving this problem and will let you know once it is resolved, we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and we will keep you informed."
Technology enthusiasts sounded the alarm after Google 's streaming service abruptly posted error messages and blank thumbnails on its website:
"YouTube has never seen it go down for more than 30 minutes like this," Brownlee, a YouTube video producer, told Twitter.
"How is there YouTube for an hour at this point – it sounds insane," tweeted Mike Isaac, a reporter for The New York Times.
The Philadelphia Police Service advised residents not to contact emergency services during the outage.
"Yes, our @ You Tube is also down," the police department said on Twitter. "No, please, do not call 911 – we can not fix it."
At 8:00 pm, the company announced that the website was working again: "We're back! Thanks for your patience," said YouTube in a tweet.
YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki also apologized but did not provide additional details about the crash: "YouTube is back," Wojcicki said in a tweet. "Sorry for all those who have been touched, thank you to the teams who have solved this problem."
