Zac Brown and his wife Shelly separate.
In a joint statement, shared exclusively with PEOPLE, the 40-year-old Zac Brown Band's lead singer and 34-year-old jewelry designer Shelly Brown reveal that they separate after 12 years of marriage.
"We feel lucky to be on such an incredible journey in life and the journey sometimes begins to take different directions. It is with great love and respect that we announce the separation of our couple, "said the couple, married in 2006.
"We lived a life in orbit together and we became a beautiful family with five amazing children. In August 2017, Shelly revealed her love story with Zac in an interview with Grand Ole Opry, as part of her digital series "Better Half."
"One of his friends introduced us," said Georgia State University alum. "I was very young – I had just finished my studies."
During an interview in 2015 with Big Machine Label Group, Zac revealed that he knew that Shelly was the one where they shared their first kiss.
