The knee injury of Utah's half-offensively, Zack Moss, is a result of a pre-existing condition that arose when the junior junior went to bed, according to the Coach Kyle Whittingham.
Whittingham called the injury "very strange" while talking to reporters after Utah 's 32-25 win over Oregon on Saturday. The coach said that Moss's knee "was stuck on him" while he was going to bed.
"It could have been a week, a month, a year ago," Whittingham told reporters about Moss's initial injury. "There is no way to find out."
Previous reports had indicated that Moss had been injured during the training session on Wednesday.
The return of Moss did not give rise to a timeline. It was reported this week that his season was over. Whittingham also noted that the attacking midfielder may have played his last match for Utah.
With 1,092 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns this season, Moss was about to break the race record in a Utah season.
In the absence of Moss, Armand Shyne led the Utes with 174 rushing yards in 26 races in the win over Oregon.
Moss has 2,647 career yards and 23 touchdowns on 477 runs. He would run for the NFL draft or could return to Utah for a final season in 2019.
Adam Rittenberg's information from ESPN was used in this report.
