US farmers harvested 4% of the corn crop, which is below the five-year average of 7%.
The general state of the corn crop is rated 55% as good to excellent in the top 18 maize producing states a week ago.
The USDA determined that 93% of the corn crop was in the pulp stage, compared to a five-year average of 98%.
