USGS elevates Lowcountry quake to magnitude 3.3 quake

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – United States Geological Survey officials have turned an earthquake in the Lowcountry into a magnitude 3.3 earthquake in the Charleston County area.

According to USGS officials, the earthquake occurred at 6:21 p.m., about 3 miles south-southeast of Centerville.

The USGS initially reported it as a magnitude 2.9 earthquake.

Residents across the Lowcountry said they felt the quake. So far, no major damage has been reported.

Berkeley County government officials said no damage has been reported at this time.

Monday night’s quake is the second today in the Lowcountry.

At 12:49 p.m., the USGS detected a magnitude 2.5 earthquake just north of Ridgeville. USGS data indicates this happened nine kilometers or 5.6 miles northwest of Ridgeville.
