Utah coronavirus cases up 3,395 on Saturday, hospitalizations setting another record

With 3,395 new coronavirus cases reported on Saturday, the rate of new diagnoses in Utah declined slightly, but hospitalizations have reached new records.

The Utah Department of Health on Saturday reported a seven-day average of 3,229 new positive test results per day – below Friday’s record rate of 3,331, but well above the 2,200 new cases daily that the State was recording on average two weeks ago.

The death toll from the coronavirus in Utah stood at 787 on Saturday, with 14 deaths reported since Friday:

  • Three women from Salt Lake County, aged 25 to 44, 65 to 84, and over 85.
  • Two men from Weber County, one aged 65 to 84 and one over 85.
  • Four men from Salt Lake County, aged 65 to 84.
  • A man from Utah County, over 85 years old.
  • A man from Wasatch County, aged 65 to 84.
  • A man from Emery County, aged 65 to 84.
  • A man from Washington County, aged 45 to 64.
  • A man from Sevier County, aged 65 to 84.

A record 551 Utah patients were admitted to hospitals simultaneously on Saturday, UDOH reported.

A total of 7,458 patients were hospitalized in Utah for COVID-19, 782 of them last week.

Over the past week, 23.7% of all tests have come back positive – a rate which indicates that a large number of those infected are not tested, state officials said.

There were 16,270 new test results reported on Saturday, above the weeklong average of around 13,900 new tests per day.
