Big Blue View has been around since February 19, 2007. The first post on the site included yours in favor of New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning. I've always defended Manning for over 12 seasons now.
If you started reading this column, do you think coach Pat Shurmur might consider [probability?] Daniel Jones could take the Giants quarterback on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and you were about to read all the reasons why you would be wrong to go wrong.
I would absolutely understand the move to Jones now if the giants decided to do it. As much as I would hate this for Manning, who deserves better than what has surrounded him with the Giants in recent years, I would go so far as to say that I would even be in favor of a move to Jones.
Do not make mistakes. Shurmur did not say what he had said – that Manning "was our starter at this point" – on a whim. He knew exactly what it would give, namely, that he was ready to leave Jones the reins from Sunday. Do not think you said that without having discussed with the general manager Dave Gettleman and the co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch.
Everyone will say aloud that the Manning-Jones decision belongs to Shurmur, but these are just words. It's not Manning's fault, the Giants are 0-2. Did he leave some pieces on the ground? Sure. It's not his fault, however, that the defense has been a sieve for two games. It was not his fault that he did not have Golden Tate, Darius Slayton or Corey Coleman to play in the first two games, and that Sterling Shepard only played one of those matches.
Manning was OK. At least that's how I see it. It was what should have been planned. Able to make a few shots, but not able to raise the talent around him, to give players a better look than they actually are.
I will always argue that for years Manning has not been the problem. He was the face of the problem. He is easy to blame or express his frustrations because he is the one who shows up every day for years and is part of a bad football game.
Nevertheless, we are not here to claim what everyone should feel about Manning. We are here to discuss the question of whether moving to something else is the right thing to do.
Shurmur claims for months to believe that Manning gave the Giants the best chance to win. The organization was still going to give this 38 year old man the opportunity to show if he could help the Giants or not to do it in 2019.
Two parts of a 16 part season may not be a perfectly accurate sample size, but we have learned a lot. We know that the Giants have an extremely young and inexperienced defense that will make its way this year. We know that only about 13% of 0-2 year old teams play in the playoffs. We know the Giants should make at least 9-5, or 10-4, over the last 14 games to qualify for the playoffs. We know they do not look like a team that can do it.
We always knew that every time the Giants were eliminated from the playoff race or the organization came to the conclusion that they just were not good enough to be a playoff team, it was There would be no point in Manning and sitting Jones.
The proof so far is that the 2019 Giants are not very good. If you look enough, however, there is evidence that they have some of the pieces they need to get back in the right direction, though some of these players are experiencing severe growth difficulties for beginners. Jones is undoubtedly the biggest. If the Giants are going to be good in 2020 or in the years that follow, they will certainly get there with Jones at the helm.
It is time to fully consider this future.
It is inevitable that the giants will turn to Jones and move away from Manning. That they will fully embrace the future and let go of the past. They really have no other choice.
For too many years, giants have adopted half measures to try to solve their problems. Change coordinator. Pushing the coach, but holding on too long to the GM who let the team crumble. We try again and again to find a way to send this iconic, aging and loved quarterback a real start.

Shurmur and general manager Dave Gettleman both know that their future depends on whether or not Jones succeeds as an NFL quarterback.
