"Valentine's Views" podcast: Vacchiano – Giants have "done well" in exchange for Odell Beckham

[ad_1]

SNY's Ralph Vacchiano, who has been covering the New York Giants for almost two decades, joined the Valentine's Views podcast on Friday. He had some very interesting things to say about Odell Beckham Jr., Eli Manning and the direction taken by General Manager Dave Gettleman.

It's a show you will not want to miss. Here are some excerpts to whet your appetite.

On Odell Beckham …

"Exchanging such a talented player is not easy, and there is probably no way to get an equal return, a good return. It was a big star … there is almost nothing they can recover that will make everyone happy.

"When you look at the commercial package they've got, compare it to other commercial packages for larger receivers, they worked really well."

On the long-term vision of the agreement …

"The objective and balanced assessment of this issue is that we have to wait to see what will happen in the future …. What do they get with the first and the third choice? This first choice could become the next neighborhood of the Giants franchise, but also the next Justin Tuck, the next Chris See or someone like that. Then you will have a look and you will say: they have an excellent player with this choice. …

"We are a few years away from really knowing how much [Gettleman] but these choices certainly can not hurt. "

Sure Eli Manning, and all the players that the giants have dropped …

"I'm sorry for all those who want to blame Eli Manning, it's not his fault. The defense could feel, the line could, you can go up and down in the lineup and see the underachieving players. Dave Gettleman has just decided that this deal is ridiculous for a team that plays so badly. We will get rid of all and we will start from scratch. "

When Manning returns for 2019 …

"The main reason for his return is that they do not have a good plan B. Trying to try his luck on Teddy Bridgewater's knee was not going to be a good plan B. Unlock $ 25 million for Nick Foles, 30 years, who has never had a full season, only been good in Philadelphia, it would not be a good plan B. Pass the ball to the choice of the first day in a draft in which the players are a little behind the quarters it does not not going to be a good plan B either.

There are many more, and I do not want to reveal everything.
