Cosmetics in Valorant are plentiful, and they only get better the more radianite (RP) you put into them. Upgrading guns can be tricky, but there are ways to speed up the process to start adding flair to your arsenal.
Riot is constantly adding diverse and unexpected skin collections to Valorant. As premium as they are, a pocket full of RP can actually take your weapon skins to another level of polish.
Unfortunately, there are only a few ways to get RP in Valorant. As such, the quest for the coveted currency boils down to outright purchasing Valorant Points (VPs) or going through the Battle Pass in each act to maximize your earnings.
To really clear up the math on how much RP you’ll need to quickly level up a gun, you need to know how much it will take to fully complete a weapon. This is where we come in!

Why do I want to level my weapons?
By pumping RP into a single pistol, you’ll begin to unlock exotic effects for skins you’ve already purchased, giving your weapons even more flair.
There are finishers, variations, and even special animations available for certain gun collections in Valorant that bring the default style out of the water.
It’s a great way to adapt to your enemies and show how dedicated you are to living the Valorant lifestyle.
How do I level my weapons?
To start the upgrade process, navigate to the top of the main Valorant menu to the “Collection” tab. You will see all your weapons laid out.
Unfortunately, not all weapons can level up, but you can easily check which ones do by browsing the cosmetics and seeing which ones have a panel to cash in RP for upgrades.
Level 1 is the base skin, and from there you will have the option to spend 10 RP to go to VFX at level 2, animation at level 3, and finally the finisher at level 4, before unlocking the variants of color.
You can spend RP on some Valorant collections to give them more flair.
How much RP is needed to upgrade Valorant weapons?
Each level for a weapon even costs 10 RP. The base level will give you a simple VFX upgrade which will beautify the skin of your weapon and unlock the next level above.
The second and third levels give you animations and a finisher, bringing the total cost of upgrading the gun to 30 RP. But once you reach that point, if the skin in question has any color variants, you’ll have the chance to purchase one for 15 RP each.
If we put it all together, each weapon in Valorant takes 30 RP to fully level up, but 75 RP in total if we want to include the three different variants as well.
How to increase your RP: buy VP
Let’s get rid of the sad truth: if you want to upgrade your weapons quickly, you have to spend some money on Valorant. The conversion distribution for VP in PR East:
- 1600VP for 20 RP
- 2800 HP for 40 RP
- 4800 VP for 80 RP

Once you’ve completed the Battle Pass, you should have 150 RP to play. If we go back to our previous calculations, it means that you can quickly upgrade two different weapons throughout.
