Valorant Magepunk Skins: release date
A fantastic mix of futurism and classic steampunk styles, Magepunk skins fall April 1, 2021, and it’s the perfect way to start the month on a high note.
Magepunk inspiration
Magepunk is certainly a pretty different concept than anything we’ve seen in Valorant before, and it turns out Riot has been working on it since May 2019!
As Valorant Art Director Sean Marino explains: “Originally it started out as a steampunk exploration, and usually with that you have a lot of oily brass, copper, and gears all over the place. We’ve seen a lot of this in games and other media and just didn’t want to be just another generic version of a fantasy that’s already out there.
“We decided to work on the design and make it look like it came from a different world than what you usually see with steampunk. We developed a backstory and technology source for it, where instead of electricity being discovered at the turn of the century, it was magic. This discovery took the company much further and we are seeing the technology of this era begin to merge with more modern designs.
“We always wanted to show where the actual physics technology was at the time, so we decided to include mechanical joints on each weapon so that it retains that smooth 19th century locomotive feel.
