Valve is working on more games

While in his 40s in New Zealand, the national news channel convinced Valve guy Gabe Newell to sit down and skip some of his favorite questions. They’ve done their best to ask questions about all of the games that end in threes, but of course Newell declined to say anything on the subject. He was prepared to say that the company currently has games in development and also mentioned that the launch of Half-Life: Alyx created a desire within the company to continue making single-player games.

Newell spoke with 1 News about things like esports and Cyberpunk 2077, but of course things always come back to Valve’s own games.

“We definitely have games in development that we’re going to announce – it’s fun to ship games,” he said. Certainly, it is no wonder that they are working on games. Valve has developed all kinds of games over the years. We heard a lot about this in last summer’s documentary Half-Life: Alyx – Final Hours. They started it all and canceled everything from Half-Life 3 to some sort of RPG to other VR experiences.

The bigger question is whether they’ll finish and release any of the games they’re currently DIYing. Newell’s mention that Valve might actually be announcing everything they have in development is interesting.

A bit about it, Newell says, “Alyx was awesome – coming back to playing single-player games, it created a lot of momentum within the company to do more.” It’s not what I would call a concrete engagement, but it’s good to hear that releasing Alyx may inspire Valve to release other single-player games more often.

As for all those series without a third entry, well they tried at least. “I’ve managed to stay away from these things for a long time and hope to continue not to talk about them until they are moot questions,” Newell said. “Then we’ll go to a new round of questions.”
