Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said he was optimistic about Vance McDonald's availability for Monday's tight match against the Bengals, but McDonald could not get to the field on Thursday.

The Steelers released their first practice report of the week and McDonald was placed on the non-participant list due to a shoulder injury that had injured his shoulder this week. The Steelers placed Xavier Grimble on the injured list on Wednesday, leaving Zach Gentry and Nick Vannett, newly-named, in second place.

Cornerback Joe Haden also missed out on training due to a shoulder injury. Haden had missed two days of testing for the same reason last week, but was in training against the 49ers.

Roosevelt Nix (knee), linebacker Vince Williams (hamstring) and linebacker Anthony Chickillo (foot) were also unavailable. All three were absent from last weekend. Linebacker Jayrone Elliott (hamstring) was also absent while center Maurkice Pouncey and linebacker Mark Barron each took days off.
