Vanderbilt baseball is aimed at Super Regionals after defeating the Indiana State 12-1 on Sunday night.

The Commodores were far from the bombs during the Nashville Regional Final. Julian Infante, the most valuable player in the Nashville area, broke two solo circuits. Philip Clarke, a former prominent member of the Christ Presbyterian Academy, made a solo hit. And Ty Duvall crushed a grand slam in the sixth inning that opened the way.

"Watching this ball leave the yard was one of the best feelings of my life," said Duvall.

Vanderbilt broke his team record in one season with 87 homers, surpassing the 86 circuits hit by the 1985 team.

Sophomore Mason Hickman (8-0), a former notable player of Pope John Paul II, gave the Commodores a third good consecutive pitcher performance to sweep the Nashville Regional. Hickman pitched seven innings, allowed one run on three hits and removed nine.

Vanderbilt (52-10) is qualified for the Super Regional vs. Duke (34-25). It will be a best-of-three series, starting Friday or Saturday at Hawkins Field, with the winner going to the College World Series. The NCAA will release the super-regions schedule at 7 am Tuesday.

"Whoever comes here and plays Vanderbilt better pack their lunch," said Indiana State coach Mitch Hannahs.

The Commodores have won 25 of their last 26 games. This will be their ninth Super Regional appearance in the program's history. Vanderbilt reached the College World Series in 2011, 2014 and 2015, winning the national championship in 2014.

Duke qualified for the Nashville Super Regional with a 4-1 win over Texas A & M on Sunday to win the Morgantown Regional title.

The 94-length Hickman output looked like The jewel of 116 throws of Drake Fellows Friday and the performance of 101 throws of Kumar Rocker Saturday in the first two victories of the regional Commodores. Hickman, usually the fourth star in the week's games, replaced senior Patrick Raby in the rotation.

Vanderbilt coach Tim Corbin said Raby "was hurt back during the week," so Hickman slipped to his place.

Hickman only committed one major mistake at the beginning. His first shot against Roby Enriquez was brought to 350 feet from the right court for a solo circuit allowing Indiana State to win 1-0. Otherwise, Hickman eliminated four of the first five batters he faced and went through the rest of the night unscathed.

Zach King finished with two innings without a hit.

Home races summarize the regional title

Despite his inexperience, Zach Frey, the starter of the Indiana State, gave Sycamores a chance. The 5-foot-10, 150-pounder came into play with only 5 1/3 innings of work this season. But he launched the Vanderbilt range for the first time without any problem.

In fourth place, Clarke shot a fast 1-0 ball for a solo homer on the straight court line to tie 1-1. Frey eliminated the next hitter and came out with just one run on two hits in 3 1/3 innings of his career.

Frey's reliever Geremy Guerrero gave another home test to Infante, who made the first pitch he saw for a 400-foot solo shot in the left field. Vanderbilt led 2-1 on five occasions.

Vanderbilt moved away in the sixth. Tyler Grauer, fourth pitcher of the night in Indiana, came into play with the bases charged. Duvall lifted Grauer's third shot over the right wall for a grand slam. Infante followed with a solo shot for consecutive circuits and a comfortable 7-1 lead en route to victory.
