At the time, her ex told the court that he was not required to pay Sofia spousal support because her daughter Vanessa and Kobe were supporting her with her fortune.
But she claimed at the time that her daughter and son-in-law did not have to support her and that everything she received from them was just a gift.
Sofia’s ex-husband also cited reports that Vanessa bought a million dollar house for her mother, which he said meant she didn’t need her support either.

But Sofia denied this information in court, calling it “absolutely false”.
“I would never allow Vanessa to do such a thing. I didn’t and I don’t intend (and I shouldn’t have to) rely on Vanessa for my support, ” she said at the time.
Vanessa also rebuffed her mother’s claim that Kobe had promised to ‘take care of her financially’.
Vanessa’s team says that even though the star athlete said this, the statement is too vague, making it unenforceable.

In her file, Vanessa’s legal team wrote that: ‘[Sofia] has never been an ’employee’, ‘calling her’ a grandmother who sometimes helped her daughter and son-in-law by spending time with her grandchildren.
To top it off, Vanessa says all of her mother’s claims over Kobe’s estate are unfounded because she failed to file a creditor’s claim within a year of her death, which she said. should have done in Sofia.

Different Realities: ‘Now she wants to charge me $ 96 an hour for allegedly working 12 hours a day for 18 years looking after her grandchildren,’ she wrote. “ In fact, she only occasionally babysits my older daughters when they were toddlers ”
In December, Vanessa responded to her mother’s legal requests on Instagram with a lengthy text message.
“ My mother continues to find ways to extort financial windfall from our family, ” she said in the post. “ I have supported her for almost twenty years, and she has never been my personal assistant or Kobe’s, nor a nanny. ”
She claimed she and Kobe had always had ‘full-time caregivers’ and called herself a ‘stay-at-home mom’ implying she wouldn’t have needed the amount childcare that Sofia claimed to have provided.
“ For almost two decades, we made sure my mom lived in our neighboring properties at no cost to her as she claimed she had no money to buy her own house after her divorce. ” , Vanessa continued.
‘She now wants to charge me $ 96 an hour for allegedly working 12 hours a day for 18 years looking after her grandchildren,’ she wrote. “ In fact, she only occasionally babysits my older daughters when they were toddlers.
“ Ten years ago our children were full-time students and athletes and I didn’t have another child until 2016. ”

‘Earlier this year I was looking for a new home for her and a week later she went on TV and gave an interview denigrating our family and laying false accusations while living rent free in a resort of closed apartments in Newport Coast.
“ Even after this betrayal, I was ready to provide my mom with monthly support for the rest of her life and it wasn’t good enough. Instead, she contacted me through intermediaries (contrary to what she claims my phone number has not changed) and demanded $ 5 million, a house and a Mercedes SUV.
‘Because I didn’t give in to her hurtful threats and financial demands, she got out of hand and made false and absurd claims. She is now trying to get more money than my husband and I have ever spent to support herself in her lifetime, ” she wrote.
