The city of South Pasadena, Calif., Has reached a settlement in the wrongful death lawsuit brought by the family of actor Vanessa Marquez, who was shot dead by police at her home in 2018.

Marquez, best known for her recurring role on the “ER” TV show, was shot dead during a health check after police believed she had brandished a gun. Marquez was suffering from a seizure upon their arrival and refused transport to hospital. About 90 minutes after the police entered her home, Marquez pointed a BB gun at them, resulting in the shooting.
McElfresh filed a lawsuit in August 2020 against the city of South Pasadena as well as the city’s former police chief and officers involved, claiming police provoked the confrontation by ignoring Marquez’s paramedics allowance to refuse transport to a hospital.
The prosecution claimed that “Ms. Marquez was shot while not facing officers, when officers were a safe distance from her, and when there was no imminent threat of serious injury or death to officers or others. people.
In March 2020, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office decided not to prosecute criminal charges against two of the officers involved in the shooting, alleging they believed Marquez was an imminent threat to their safety.
