(Caracas, July 10 – News24) .- ELN, the last active guerrilla in Colombia and negotiating peace, described the agreement as a "resounding failure" 2016 between the dissident rebel group FARC and the government to overcome a half-century of armed conflict.
"No other moment like this can be more clear to ratify the validity of the revolutionary armed struggle (…) after the resounding failure of the way of negotiations and agreements between the FARC have disappeared and the Colombian oligarchy, "said Nicolás Rodríguez Bautista (" Gabino "), supreme commander of the Guévarist guerrillas.
"Gabino" says that the pact that disarmed and turned the former Communist guerrilla party into a party leaves "great lessons" at the time when the Army representatives of National Liberation (ELN) negotiate an agreement in Cuba Similar to the government of Juan Manuel Santos.
"Those who were the FARC, are neither an insurgent force nor a real legal party and this great lesson is to learn deep down," the rebel leader added in a letter July 4 but released Tuesday on the websites of the insurgents.
Santos, who will quit power in August, used the ELN to sign a pact similar to that agreed with the FARC that allows "total peace" for a bloody nation.
His successor, right winger Ivan Duque, promised to change the agreement with the FARC and tighten the conditions to continue talks with the "elenos" who nevertheless reiterated their desire to maintain the dialogues.
The FARC, which was America's most powerful guerrilla, signed a historic peace pact in late 2016 after four years of talks in the Cuban capital.
As agreed, about 7,000 fighters laid down their arms and formed the Fuerza Alternativa Revolucionaria del Común (FARC), today party, which will have ten seats in parliament from 20 July.
The former guerrillas denounced the violations of states in the implementation of the agreement, among them the lack of security guarantees for their ex-combatants and political participation.
In addition, they described as "perfidy" l the changes made to the Congress. or the justice system to try ex-guerrillas and soldiers for crimes committed during the fighting.
