The Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, announced Wednesday the partial dismantling of a criminal gang dedicated to drug trafficking, with the new modality of distribution by companies encomienda
"We announce the dismantling of an organization dedicated to drug trafficking from Venezuela to Europe and Africa, which used the packages to send these substances ", noted.
He said that on 20, 21 and 22 June, agents of the Bolivarian National Guard anti-drug command detected five shipments of furniture and paintings in which "more than 80 kg of cocaine" were hidden.
The first seizure, said Saab, took place on June 20 on a wooden table, two seats and two cushions intended for Holland, where there was 22.8 kilograms of this drug. On 21, respectively, 16.1 kg of cocaine were seized hidden in a double-bottomed wooden table intended for Cote d Ivoire.
On day 22, there was a greater amount of seizures, first in a double-bottomed photo that went to Ivory Coast, where 14.5 kg of drugs were found and the same day, in another table, they found 15.9 kg to Holland, and also 12.4 kg of cocaine hidden inside two seats and two bench cushions to Africa .
He pointed out that four of these shipments came from Táchira and Anzoátegui and were discovered at MRW headquarters in Caracas, in the area of international shipments. He reiterated that the total seizure was 82 kg of cocaine in these five procedures.
He adds that the Public Prosecution (PM) determined that the mailings were made with false identifications, but assured that the true identity was obtained.
"In this sense, we issued arrest warrants and search warrants. Our prosecutors have requested arrest warrant against the head of the organization for the crime of drug trafficking in the mode of transport and the raids were requested at MRW headquarters in Táchira, Anzoátegui and Caracas ", he added.
The name of the head of the organization is Edgar Vitelio Bermúdez.
The prosecutor said that so far in 2018, 75 investigations have been opened for parcels shipped by the DHL and MRW companies, seizing a total of 235 pounds with 236 grams of cocaine, for which Saab considered that these companies, by not respecting the security procedures to prevent such expeditions and verify the identity of persons, "could be involved in the complicity in the crime of drug trafficking, for which the member goes act "
" A new modality for drug trafficking is reiterated because criminal organizations have changed the way substances are distributed, and this is now a new modality that we have hit hard and these companies will have to give testimony why their own security mechanisms do not take enough steps to prevent this from happening " he said.
