The global cryptocurrency market lost 58% of its value in the first half, as its capitalization slowed to 254,292 million dollars (about 217,473 million euros), according to a report prepared by Funcas, published on Wednesday.

According to the report, only bitcoin, the virtual currency with the highest market capitalization, recorded a 51% loss in value from January to June, followed by another cryptocurrency, Ethereum, down 36%.

The study, which analyzes the price, total volume and transaction costs of the 10 virtual currencies with the highest capitalization of the market, shows that the cryptocurrency market included 1,601 assets listed on the market. end of June

On the other hand, the report analyzes the market for initial offers of cryptocurrencies (ICO).

In this sense, it details that the total volume of funding through the end of June, the total amount of equity commitments was $ 3.837 million (about 3,280 million euros) ).

This amount was divided into 384 projects, compared with 497 in the first half of 2017.

Of this total, 34 companies were launched in Spain with ICO funding until June, of which 58 % have been installed in foreign jurisdictions, such as Switzerland or Singapore, as their regulations are more favorable.

Regarding the regulatory scope of cryptocurrencies, the study indicates that out of a total of 125 countries analyzed, bitcoin is legal in 81, one less than the last quarter, and illegal in 20, which means two more countries than at the beginning of the year.
