Alejandro Andrade, former treasurer of Venezuela sentenced to 10 years in prison in the United States, read a letter during the trial Tuesday and confessed that, when he was in office, had made "bad" decisions.
"As treasurer of the nation, I make bad decisions that weigh on me with all my heart, I take full responsibility for the behavior of which I am guilty today," said Andrade.
Journalist Tamoa Calzadilla explained that Andrade had arrived in the United States in 2014 with a special entry permit and that he had since been collaborating with the North American authorities.
"The US government has granted me a special permit to enter, known as conditional release.The parole is reserved for anyone who can render a special service to this country," explained the former official.
Andrade said he felt "tremendous remorse" for the pain and shame that he had caused to his family and those affected by his actions.
"I have a lot of respect for the US government and I fully accept the consequences of my actions.Today, I am convinced that the decision I made was correct," he said. he declared.
Alejandro Andrade has just been sentenced to 10 years in prison by the South Florida court (Palm Beach). He read a letter and apologized to his family and friends. He did not specify whether he was addressing Venezuelans.
