Pregnant patients, cases of haemophilia and advanced cancers are among the diseases received by the University Hospital of Santander de Bucaramanga as part of the Venezuelan migration.

The director of the medical center, Edgar Julián Niño, explained that he attended a larger population with no more capacity. "We have more beds, we have a population that unfortunately has not had adequate health care," he said.

In addition, he noted that some of the 1,198 migrants who arrived in recent months suffer from diseases eradicated in Colombia, such as malaria and measles.

"We have also received expensive pathologies such as hemophilia, advanced cancers, coronary heart disease, things that are very expensive for us," Niño said.

71% of the population treated today is pregnant women who travel long distances from Venezuela in search of medical care.

At present, the debt of the University Hospital of Santander amounts to 3,000 million pesos.
