On Wednesday, November 28, the Archdiocese of Maracaibo presented to the media a statement in which he repudiated the lascivious acts of priest Iván Merino Padial, of Spanish origin and belonging to the Church María Inmaculada, to against a 12 year old girl.

Bishop Caraballo apologized to the relatives of the victim and the Catholic community of Zulia and asked that the competent authorities take care of the case.

The priest was arrested late on Saturday, November 24, for having an intimate relationship with a 12-year-old girl, according to police authorities.
