The chairman of the Standing Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation of the National Assembly, Luis Lippa, denounced Wednesday that police authorities have kept between 2,800 and 3,000 head of cattle in Apure, which is equivalent to 600 tons of meat.
He said the authorities had also withheld 50,000 kilograms of cheese. The parliamentarian noted that, according to the provisions of the Official Gazette No. 41,526, the measure taken by the officials is illegal.
Lippa explained that the resolution of 16 November 2018 established that neither governors nor mayors would be responsible for planning the distribution of food. For this reason, he accused the governor of the entity, Ramón Carrizalez, from contempt of court.
He assured that through the National Institute of Integrated Agricultural Health (Insai), they had prevented producers from subtracting their production from the state's production.
"Our producers want them to pay the right price because there is no law to keep more than 2,500 cattle on pasture. The state is causing economic problems for farmers because animals have begun to lose weight, which affects the producer's pocket, "he said.
He said producers had not stopped supplying the local market. "They sell products at affordable prices for the entire population, but the regional government has stopped issuing mobilization guidelines, nor are they allowing farmers to bring their animals to slaughterhouses and consumer centers. We are facing arbitrariness that lacks legitimacy, "he said.
Luis Lippa announced that he would go to court if the governor and mayors continued to ignore newsletters. "The state is not a merchant, it is the producer who takes off its production," he added.
