In recent months we have seen how notch is one of the clearest trends in the mobile phone industry. This allowed to keep pieces in front while increasing the diagonal of the screen. But many users have abandoned it by preferring conventional frames rather than weird cuts on the panel.
The end of the year 2018 is approaching and it seems that the end of the notch is over since the major manufacturers are banking on two solutions that would rule out this trend.
They are not the only ones since moving elements also do not need to be nicked but, with the exception of OPPO Find X and Mi MIX 3, it does not seem that we will see it in more devices. And these two new options are starting to become massive.
Built-in camera through the hole in the screen
The first solution to the existence of the notch is quite simple. Instead of having some sort of peninsula in the upper area (something that looks good in the notch shaped like a drop of water), we built an island. In this document, only the camera would be.
This is the solution presented by Samsung at a conference for collaborating companies. But it is not the only one who will use this system. Huawei has already announced that it will present in a few days its first mobile with a hole in the screen to house the camera. The rumor Huawei Nova 4 will be the first in the world to market this solution. And it is expected that the Galaxy A8s, which will be announced this year, too.
The advantage of this option are obvious. We can do without areas that cut the screen aggressively, there will be no extra charges for moving parts or duplicate items and the screen area occupied is minimal.
But there is also disadvantages. It will be very easy to move your finger and dirty the sensor permanently. In addition, the area where the camera is located will not be touch sensitive and the interface elements as buttons in the games should reflect this.
Still, many manufacturers are developing designs with this option, although it is not the only one.
Double screen to do without notch
The other solution we started to see is to duplicate the screen. The idea is simple. If we have a screen at the back to see us, we do not need the camera before because we can also use the main camera for selfies.
That's what the Nubia X does, with a hidden screen under its glass and metal design, as well as the new Vivo mobile that has been filtered in recent days and will be presented shortly.
The advantage One of the advantages of this solution is that it gives up the front camera, thus saving this cost, has no cut on the screen, allowing to use the entire front, and no moving element.
The disadvantage By doubling the screen, we increase the cost of the terminal and, especially, its fragility, because it is much more likely that before the fall one of the two panels eventually be broken.
We may see several solutions coexist for a moment, with brands boasting of one position or another.
