In an article for Athletic, MLB Network expert Ken Rosenthal wonders if the Yankees, allegedly mentioned in the rumors, would be interested in the two most important players in the free agency of Manny Machado and Bryce Harper. go see both players for them to focus on their starting launches, then look for another major player from the 2019 independent agency, Nolan Arenado.
The Rockies will certainly do everything in their power to extend Arenado, but if that does not happen and the third, 28-year-old base player gets the status of a free agent, the Yankees could certainly join him.
Rosenthal points out that if Harper and Machado are younger, Arenado may well be the most durable of the three, having been on the disabled list only once, in 2014.
Each season, Arenado is nominated for the Most Valuable Player award and has won the Gold Glove Award in each of his six major league seasons, not to mention the consecutive Platinum Glove Trophies of the past two years.
Since 2015, he has hit .297 / .358 / .573 (129 OPS +) with 158 homers. If the Yankees added it, it would put into question what New York would do with the finalist rookie of the American League, Miguel Andujar.
Of course, any team would prefer Arenado, but we will know it until next year.
