"Discover" the animals with their senses
MIAMI (EFE) .- The wet kiss of a sea lion, splash of water from a ray and the Soft skin contact from a dolphin allowed a group of blind teenagers to "discover" the variety of animals in the Miami Aquarium.
More than 20 teenagers from the Lighthouse Blind Organization for the Blind of Miami yesterday visited the city's aquarium in search of different textures that allowed them to know, a little more, how are these animals that most of them could only imagine by a detailed description.
"It does not matter which animal, whether it is smaller or bigger.Today is a day to discover many things, and to feel that they are an active part of the Do not be excluded, and be able to participate in what visionaries can do, "says Janette Fernandez, Special Education Teacher at the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind.
Feel, Feel and Interact with them draw a face of satisfaction and even cause laughter among those young people between the ages of 14 and 22 who participate in the summer campus of this organization.
The first animal that they "discovered" was a lion of sea, who was encouraged to approach the cheeks of some of them until they could feel the tickling of his mustache.
"The skin was super soft and fresh. I had never seen one so big, "says Christian Mulet, 16, impressed by the size of the animal.
They also caressed two parrots, much stronger than the sea lions, which have a little more respect for the young.
"I was a little scared, because I did not know if they were wild or calm. But when I loaded it, it was not heavy, and when I touched it, it had a very fine, soft, very delicate skin, "explained Mulet while one Manta ray splashed his companion Asdrúbal.
Some hesitated to put their hands in the water, but with the help of the instructors, following the maxim of "if you do it I do it", they managed to overcome the fear.
"As this is brave, Asdrúbal! You understood," says a monitor to the young man when he dared to touch the cartilaginous tissue of the stingray
The most expected activity has come to an end when, without any fear, they could touch a dolphin.
"Many of them probably have touched one, which is why it's a great opportunity. It's very important because they can not see the animals but they interact with them and touch them. When we see their faces, it's very gratifying, "said Analisa Duran, head of education at the Miami Seaquarium.
"It was wonderful, it seemed so beautiful, soft and moist," said Jacqueline Gutierrez, 19. they could touch an Argentine tegu, a kind of lizard whose skin was drier, but which also helped them add one more animal to their list of acquaintances.
