CLEVELAND (AP) – Quarterback Baker Mayfield signed his rookie contract with the Cleveland Browns on Tuesday.

This year's first overall draft pick resulted in a four-year deal of $ 32 million a day before the Cleveland players showed up at the training camp. Cornerback Denzel Ward, fourth overall pick, still has not agreed.

One of the most popular and controversial players in college football, Mayfield is not expected to start his first season with Cleveland. The Browns have acquired Tyrod Taylor in an exchange with the Bills and plan to use it until Mayfield proves that he is ready.

Mayfield won the Heisman Trophy the previous season with Oklahoma after spending 4,627 yards and 43 touchdowns. The Browns have selected from several other promising smugglers in the draft last April.

Cleveland has spent almost every last two seasons looking for a franchise quarterback and they expect Mayfield to complete this quest. The Browns finished the previous season with a score of 0 to 16.
