Cristiano Ronaldo will be fined 3.2 million euros (3.7 million dollars) and a 24-month prison sentence that will probably not be met, after finding a agreement in a case of tax evasion with the Spanish authorities, said the prosecutor Friday.
The 33 – year – old footballer is accused of avoiding 5.7 million euros in taxes, but he denied the accusations.
Ronaldo is unlikely to go to jail, as Spanish law states that sentences of less than two years for a first offense can be served with parole.
The Portuguese must pay the fine of 3.2 million euros plus 5.7 million euros in tax arrears, 1 million euros accrued interest and 250 euros a day for 48 months.
It is likely that this amount represents only a portion of the fines that the attacker will have to pay on the case, which is expected to increase to around 19 million euros in total.
