Economic activity in Panama continues to slow

The monthly index of economic activity ( IMAE ) in Panama from January to May rose by 3.17%, compared with the same period 2017, according to the figures of the Comptroller General. 19659002] This figure is lower than that recorded in the same period of 2017 compared to 2016 when growth was 6.49%.

The monthly interannual variation for May 2018 was 0.76%, compared to the same month of the previous year, lower than the figure recorded in 2017 with 7.48% in 2016.

Indicates the report that, in the period from January to May, the main categories of economic activity that showed favorable behavior were: fishing, transportation, storage and communications, electricity and water, public administration and trade.

The Monthly Index of Economic Activity (IMAE) and the Quarterly Gross Domestic Product (GDPTRIM) are two economic indicators that allow us to approximate the trajectory of economic growth of the country.
