Georgetown.- The Government of Guyana announced Tuesday that it is providing assistance to the growing number of Venezuelans arriving in this South American country across the shared border.

The Minister of Public Health and Citizenship of Guyana, Winston Felix, reported sending drugs, food and camping equipment to villages near the border shared by both country, where the number of Venezuelan IDPs is increasing, Efe reported.

Felix pointed out that the population of Guyana is very generous with the displaced but not all Venezuelans have received the attention they need.

"There are people sleeping outside, so we send awnings, hammocks, blankets, pillows, cots and what we think is necessary for welcome those who are out " said Felix

A delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Citizenship of Guyana returned Monday from the border area, where they conducted an assessment of the situation.

In addition, representatives of the Ministries of Health The public, social protection, communities, citizenship, police of Guyana and the Civil Protection Commission will meet to structure the response of this government to the situation.

Felix said that during this week, the media will be strengthened for migration control to deal with the irregular arrival of Venezuelans in Guyana and determine the exact number of people seeking refuge in the border area.

He added that localities such as White Water have recorded the arrival of up to 150 people from Venezuela in recent times.
