Washington .- Basketball star LeBron James accused US President Donald Trump of using the sport to divide society and profit from his political interests.
"That's what I've seen in recent months," James said in an interview broadcast on CNN on Monday. "He uses the sport to divide us and it's something I can not stand."
The triple NBA champion refers to footballer Colin Kaepernick, who launched a protest movement against discrimination, racism and police violence on his knees when the anthem rang before the games. And he also remembers Stephen Curry, another basketball rift, who refused to visit the White House.
"I can not sit and say nothing," LeBron James said of his stance on Trump's ideas.
The President of the United States demanded sanctions for the athletes who protested the hymn and even insulted them: he even called them "sons of bitches" and asked the clubs to dismiss them.
"You must stand up proudly during the national anthem, you should not play, you should not be there, maybe you should not be in the country," said the president in May .
LeBron James is the most charismatic basketball player of recent years and never bites his tongue when he analyzes social and political issues. The star has signed this season for the Los Angeles Lakers.
