Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, inaugurated an exhibition on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of the first black president and anti-apartheid leader of South Africa, Nelson Mandela .

From Kensington Palace, it was reported that the royal couple spoke with Andrew Mlangeni, 92, who was convicted of sabotaging the apartheid government in South Africa in 1938 and imprisoned for 26 years on Robben Island, where Mandela himself was even passed 18 of his 27 years of captivity.

The exhibition, located in London, celebrates the "life, career and commitment to equality and justice" of Mandela, whose centenary is celebrated on Wednesday July 18th. It aims to show how this "transformed the political landscape in his country and in the world."

Label Hatang, who heads the Johannesburg-based Mandela Foundation, said before the event that London was "the South African colonial metropolis".

"It was also the setting for some of Mandela's most inspiring speeches.

Mandela was honored with a bronze statue on London's Parliament Square in 2007, six years before his death. The statue was joined by other celebrities such as former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, former US President Abraham Lincoln and Indian independence leader Mahatma Gandhi.
