This year, Mexico has activated the 4.5G mobile data network on some devices – including the iPhone X, Apple's flagship product – which is 10 times faster than his predecessor. However, despite these technological advances, the 4G network has barely 16% of the total number of mobile service users according to the study 'The Evolution of Mobile Telecommunications in Latin America and the Caribbean ", conducted by BID Invest and the University of Illinois.

According to the rate of adoption of 4G technology, the average in the region of Latin America and the Caribbean of the population that uses this service is 16.1% compared to the total population that uses mobile services, at the same level as in Mexico.

According to the National Survey on the Availability and Use of Information Technology in Households, the Federal Institute of Telecommunications, 64.7 million people had at least one smartphone in 2017 . Of this total, 92% connect to the Internet from their smartphone.

If we take into account the total number of smartphone users in Mexico and the study figures, about 10 million 352 thousand people have access to the 4G mobile network .

The country of Latin America and the Caribbean with the highest percentage of its population with the 4G network is Uruguay where it exceeds 50%. They are followed by Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Bolivia, with figures ranging between 45 and 25%.
