Painful anemia increases the risk of miscarriage, stillbirth, low birth weight and prematurity, said Mexican physician Yusimit Ledesma.
As part of Iron Deficiency Day, Ledesma told reporters that at least 50% of cases of anemia were due to iron deficiency, which increased the risks of infant mortality and death. delivery complications due to bleeding.
According to figures from the World Health Organization (WHO), 24.8% of the world's population suffers from anemia, or more than 1.620 million people.
Exhaustion or extreme fatigue, irritability, mood swings, lack of concentration and memory, as well as nail abnormalities are some of the symptoms of anemia.
Similarly, Ledesma explained that anemia can affect the physical and cognitive development of children.
"Anemia occurs at any age and sex, although the most vulnerable groups are infants and children, as well as pregnant women and women of reproductive age," he said.
However, Ledesma added that this disease could be treated and could be countered by dietary supplements, as well as a diet rich in vegetables and green leaves, red meat and nuts.
According to the National Health Survey conducted in Mexico in 2012, 11.6% of Mexican women suffer from anemia and 17.9% of pregnant women have the same problem.
