The Capital District Teachers' Union demonstrated on Thursday in the capital's district offices demanding respect for collective agreements and poor working conditions.
Teachers have suggested a general strike in the education sector across the country to demand the resignation of the government. "If the teachers and children of Venezuela are not going to celebrate Christmas, you will not do it either, because we will continue on the street," said a member of the Caracas Teachers' Claims Union.
One of the teachers reported that children fainted in classrooms because they were not eating properly. "Our collective contract is the only one that is legitimate, the president has signed it and now he is violating it," said another teacher.
