The two presidential candidates in Zimbabwe claim to be the winners

Harare .- The Opposition Nelson Chamisa won the first elections in Zimbabwe after 40 years of defender Robert Mugabe's government, said Tandai Biti, one of the leading leaders of the Movement for Human Rights. Democratic Change (MDC).

"The results show beyond any doubt that we won the elections and that the next president of Zimbabwe is Nelson Chamisa," said Biti, a former finance minister, quoted by AFP

"We are nevertheless very concerned about the evidence of interference … there is a deliberate delay in the announcement of the results. "

The electoral commission, strongly criticized by the opposition throughout the electoral process, had previously declared that "there was no fraud" during the elections.

"We want to show the Zimbabwean people that we will not steal the elections" to the citizens, assured the president of the commission Priscilla Chigumba. "Whatever our results, they accurately reflect" what people "have decided," he added.

The two leading presidential candidates in Zimbabwe, President Emmerson Mnangagwa and opposition Nelson Chamisa, had previously claimed that they won the elections held on Monday.

ZANU-PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa, Mugabe's former right-hand man, was confident.

"The information obtained by my representatives on the ground is extremely positive," he said. "I patiently wait for the results, according to the Constitution" added on Twitter touting the high turnout.

The official results of the presidential, legislative and municipal elections, during which the candidates for Zanu-PF, the party in power since 1980, and the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), n & # 39, were not announced yet.
