During the meeting, the inclusion of retrovirus patients in the work and education environment was considered.
More than 15 children in Ciudad Guayana, living with HIV, commemorated World AIDS Day, which takes place every December 1st.
The activity entitled "Celebration for Life, United in Struggle" was conducted in the Las Manoas module and was led by Dr. Yenny Carreño, coordinator of the Safe Health Program (HIV-AIDS).
More than two thousand diagnosed people are enrolled in the program, including children, youth, adults and the elderly, with adults representing the highest percentage of people living with HIV.
Carreño pointed out that the activities aimed to raise awareness about the prevention of the disease through educational, recreational and musical acts.
Another fundamental goal of the program is to integrate patients in different areas of society, such as work and education.
Indeed, they are victims of discrimination and have very few opportunities for personal and professional development.
Carreño explained that the signs were related to the lack of knowledge of the citizens because they guarantee that they will be infected by saliva or a glass of water.
To deal with this serious problem, Carreño has a team of professionals made up of psychologists and psychiatrists, who provide patients with the tools they need to progress and fight the disease.
In the process, the family members of the patients participate and they are educated so as not to consider the diagnosis as a death.
They have drugs
Carreño said he has drugs to treat HIV-infected patients.
He explained that they are distributed from Monday to Friday, but that sometimes patients need fast delivery. He assured that all formal part of the process.
They joined the fight
The social integration team Apacuana and Fundebis, led by graduate Wendy Borges of Fajardo, participated in the meeting which will end on December 7th with a day of cytology.
