Twitter has suspended more than a million accounts a day in recent months to reduce the flow of misinformation on the platform, reports the Washington Post.

Like other social networks like Facebook Inc., Twitter is being scrutinized by US lawmakers and international regulators for doing too little for to prevent the spread of false documents .

Companies have taken action such as the removal of user accounts, the introduction of updates and active monitoring of content to help users are not victims of false information.

Twitter suspended over 70 million accounts in May and June and the pace It continued in July, reported the Post Friday, citing data that he obtained.

"It's hard to believe that 70 million accounts were affected, since Twitter alone has 336 million active monthly users (MAUs)," said Michael Pachter, analyst at Wedbush.

"I suspect that a lot of these suspended accounts were dormant (…) should not have much impact on the business," Pachter told Reuters. If the majority of the 70 million were active accounts, the accounts concerned "would have shouted that it was a bloody murder," he added.

However, according to a source in the post, the aggressive withdrawal of unwanted accounts could result an unusual decline in the number of users per month in the second quarter.

"Due to improvements in technology and in the process over the past year, we are extracting 214% more accounts for violating our spam policies on an interannual basis" , noted the firm in a blog post last month.
