WHO: Russia was the country of Europe where the number of HIV infections increased in 2017

Russia was the first country in Europe in 2017 to experience new cases of infection with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), according to a report from the European Office of the Organization World Health Organization (WHO).

According to the document, the rate of detection of new cases of infection in Russia was 71.1 per 100,000 inhabitants in 2017

Only two countries, Russia and Ukraine, represent 75% of all cases infections detected in the European region of WHO in 2017.

Last year, a total of 160,000 new cases of infection throughout Europe. Among them, 130,000 in Eastern Europe; Only 104,000 in Russia.

In most cases, the infection was transmitted through heterosexual relationships (59%) and parenteral drug use (30%).

Second place in the disturbing "ranking" is occupied Ukrainewith 37 cases per 100 000 population, followed by Belarus (26,1) and Moldova (20.6).

The lowest infection rates recorded in 2017 were recorded in Slovenia (1,9), Slovakia (1,3) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (0.3).
