Verdict Monsanto: Jury awards Livermore couple $ 2 billion who say Roundup caused cancer

OAKLAND, Calif. – Another court in Alameda County Superior Court has ruled against Monsanto in another lawsuit claiming that its famous herbicide, Roundup, was carcinogenic.

Alva and Alberta Pilliod of Livermore claim that exposure to Roundup caused them non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. They stated that exposure of more than three decades of spraying Roundup on weeds in several properties was an important factor of the disease.

The jury agreed, awarding the couple one billion dollars each in punitive damages for a total of $ 2 billion. They also received $ 55 million in compensatory damages.

This follows almost six weeks of testimony followed by closing arguments last Wednesday.
